Multiple Instruments
The problems being solved by the project are that learning multiple instruments is challenging and owning or renting instruments is very expensive. The only keys in this instrument are lasers, which are played by covering the phototransistors below each laser. This instrument has the musical files for 8 natural notes of a flute, a piano, a trumpet, a violin, and a percussive instrument.
Portable
To address the portability issue of many instruments, this device is small, only 18 in x 12 in x 4 in. It is powered by a rechargable battery with enough power to play for at least an hour.
Record on a Phone
The device is Bluetooth-enabled, allowing for connectivity to an application. The application saves recordings of the instrument for the user to playback.

Our Great Team

Luke Hazelton
Luke is a Computer Engineering student. His roles in the project included mobile application design, audio file editing, and assistance with frame and PCB design. His plan after graduation is to work as a Software Computer Tools Engineer with CAE. This is a transition to a full-time position from his current co-op position.
Alexis Lamb
Alexis is a Computer Engineering student. Her roles for the project focused on the sensor configuration of the instrument, the integration and firmware of the instrument, and assistance with the frame and mobile application. She plans to continue working with Lockheed Martin after graduation while pursuing her master's degree.
Erik Lim
Erik is a Computer Engineering student. For this project, he was in charge of the power subsystem, graphical user interface, and implementation of Bluetooth Low Energy communication between the device and mobile devices. He also assisted with electrical design and mobile application.
