Imaging System
The scanner’s imaging system consists of a low-divergence 635nm laser line generator for contour illumination and a focus-modified Raspberry Pi V2 Camera Module for capturing image data.
With the ubiquity of 3D printers, The Scanner for Automated 3D Modeling of Small Objects aims to bring a quick, inexpensive, and user friendly experience for creating 3D printable object files. It uses a fully automated system that allows the user to simply click and scan to receive the resulting file via email, abstracting away the low-level implementation details of 3D reconstruction. The scanner is lightweight, portable, and powered by a Raspberry Pi to provide full scans within 10 minutes.

The electronics system is designed to properly power each component of this project, to sufficiently drive the stepper motor, to switch the laser on and off, and to provide an LED light show for user appeal during the compilation process.
Our software suite allows users to efficiently
scan any object and receive an STL file that is ready to be printed. This
is all hidden under the hood of our easy to use graphical interface.
