Our project aims to improve pedestrian safety at high traffic intersections. We identify and detect pedestrians crossing the road, and we alert vehicles to their presence. Generally, all pedestrians and vehicle drivers would benefit from our device to promote safety and prevent accidents. It works by utilizing cameras and sensors to use real-time data from crosswalks, and warns vehicles using audible and visual alerts. Our product is unique as we are combining live data from multiple sources to provide better functionality. This is applicable at any crosswalk or high traffic intersections. It is solar-powered and environmentally friendly. The US Department of Transportation has many initiatives and programs to promote pedestrian safety, and we aim to help boost pedestrian safety.
