Hello! We are a group of seniors at the University of Central Florida who set out to build a mobility aid for the blind. The conventional white cane commonly used by blind persons to detect and avoid obstacles as they navigate their environment has a limited detection range. This project is our journey to developing a convenient and affordable mobility aid device. We hope this project inspires you to leverage technology to empower the lives of the people around you.
The project was undertaken with the help and guidance of our faculty advisors, Dr. David Hagan, Dr. Samuel Richie, and Dr. Lei Wei, as well as UCF Student Accessibility Services, Lighthouse of Central Florida, and QMS. The authors wish to also thank Dr. Weed, Dr. Soileau, and Dr. Piracha for the time given to brainstorm ideas and leverage their technical expertise.
