Abstract — The Smart Mirror is a product designed to provide a personalized experience for a user as they view their appearance. Inspired by internet-of-things technology, the device can identify the user via facial recognition to log in to calendars, social media accounts, and allow the user to view multiple sources of information at a glance. Additionally, the system permits the use of gesture swiping to move between the various data modules such that the Smart Mirror is dependent on active inputs from the user. Final implementation includes the addition of dynamic LED lighting to illuminate the user’s profile during low light level conditions, aiding in both the user experience as well as face recognition performance. The following paper will discuss the design considerations for each of the subsystems as well as administrative data relevant to the project.
